Driver's License Input Devices:

Positive Access software products are hardware independent. End User software may be configured for most types of input. Developers may input from any desired product(s). The following input devices are known to Positive Access as reliable devices which can be used to scan driver's license cards with the IDecode® software from Positive Access:
USB vs Serial Connections for Driver's License Reading Devices:

USB connections are currently a popular method for connecting input devices. Most devices that are connected via the USB port send the data as if it were coming from the keyboard. Some driver's licenses send special or control characters from the bar code. These special characters are received by the operating system as if from the keyboard and will cause operational problems such as closing and/or opening other applications. A way around this problem is to purchase a serial device and then purchase a serial to USB converter cable which will allow the use of the physical USB port while allowing special characters to be received properly as serial data. Another solution is to check with your device manufacturer to determine if they provide a serial driver so that the data that is received via the USB port is accepted as serial data.

E-Seek 2D Bar Code and Magnetic Stripe Driver's License Reader
